Friendships Poem by Pauline Horner

Friendships

FRIENDSHIPS

Fair-weather friendships -
easily broken
as new interests beckon,
like an impatient wind
passing through,
rushing to its next destination.

Friendships of convenience -
easily broken
as the benefits fade,
Like a parasite
exploiting its host.

Friendships of pleasure -
easily broken
as exhilaration subsides,
like a roller-coaster ride
driven by its thrill.

Friendships for the good -
long-lasting
as the connection deepens,
nurture us, through a humble heart,
like a fertile soil
giving nutriment to plants as they flourish.

Non-judgmental friends -
support us
like massive trees
shielding delicate birds' nests,

Adventurous friends -
entice us out of our shells,
giving us confidence to fly
like a kite in the wind.

An honest confidant -
like a tremor of the earth,
lets us hear the harsh truth.

The wise mentor -
like a train leaving the station,
guides us in the right direction.

Dependableneighbours -
like angels in disguise,
have each other's backs.

Balanced friendships are divine,
nourishing and life-giving.
Value them.
