Sunrise Poem by Pauline Horner

Sunrise

Rating: 5.0

I am in my much treasured haven,
As I witness the first blush of Sunrise
On a Palmtree-lined beach,
At Daybreak.

Awaiting First Light,
I savour the crisp coolness
Of a moderate breeze,
As I stroll slowly across the soft sand
To the seashore,
Leaving a curving trail of fleeting footprints
Along the water's edge.
Smooth, fine beach-sand runs between my toes,
Gentle waves wash over my bare feet.
A wonderful, scintillating feeling of renewal.

In anticipation of Dawn,
Loving couples stroll hand-in-hand,
Traversing the cool, sandy beach.
Others perform customary religious rituals
Across the shallow breakers.
Excited children frolic and laugh
In the illuminating waves.
Each and every one immersed
In their own special Sanctuary.

Over the distant Horizon,
Appearing gradually,
Is the long-awaited Aurora,
Contributing a beacon of light
To the morning sky.
Slowly, a round, orange glow of brightness intensifies,
Culminating in a blaze of awe-inspiring brilliance!

A new beginning...
I feel refreshed.
My mind is filled with wonder
At the sight!
A precious moment to cherish!
