From Seed To Weed Poem by Biff McGuire

From Seed To Weed

If I get my roots into this rugged ground
Where food for me and water can be found
All the female flowers will whistle
I’ll be healthy as a thistle
If I get my roots into this rugged ground

If I get my roots into this rugged ground
I’ll wear my blossoms like a royal crown
The farmers want me, to make loot
From harvesting my firm sweet fruit
If I get my roots into this rugged ground

If I get my roots into this rugged ground
I’ll hear oohs and ahhs and produce market sounds
They’ll sell me for a goodly price
I’ll be worth more than beans and rice
If I get my roots into this rugged ground

I’ve got my roots into that rugged ground
The soil’s good here, the watering can comes ‘round
But they won’t let me go to seed
I’ve been pulled out and called a weed
Now a sobbing wilting cry’s the only sound
