From The Terror Raging Outsidemy Self... Poem by Mohammad Younus

From The Terror Raging Outsidemy Self...

From the terror raging outside my self...
...I try to run away into the room within;
There the torch of peace burns bright;
In the holy Zulumaat dwells the divine light;
In the niche of heart there is the lamp...
...lit from the blessed oil of love;
I do feel it burning deep inside...
...and the sensation of light upon light...
...starting to rise;
And it's the gift for submission...
...to God of love and peace;
Vow! I feel taste of sweetness...
...swimming through my heart and brain;
The tormented blood of terror and fear...
...is drained out;
My heart is slowly pulsating into a faster beat...
...giving out the echoing sound of Hu Hu;
I get transported to the day first...
...in a steady flash of light;
From within a voice is heard:
(Alam `A`had `Ilaykum Ya Bani `Adama...
...`An La Ta`budu Ash-Shaytana
`Innahu Lakum `Aduwun Mubinun) ¹

Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam...
...that you not worship Satan -
[for] indeed, he is to you a clear enemy;
And I slowly start to pull away...
...from the temptations of my evil nafs;
Cause the satanic nafs is worse than the devil;
It's the destroyer of life as it leads to the Hell...
...which is not a place to dwell.

1. Qur'an: 30: 60
Did I not enjoin on you, O you children of Adam,
that you should not worship Satan -
since, verily, he is your open foe.
