From Womb To A Tomb Poem by Bonfas Odhiambo

From Womb To A Tomb

As I stood there, by his casket,
My hand placed on top of the transparent glass,
In the cold wind that blew off,
I thought to myself: Of course it's a joke,
Of course he will burst the lid open,
Blind us all with that ridiculous grin,
Split our ears with a high-pitched bark of laughter,

I was not alone in such fantasies,
For everyone at the funeral,
Expected something of the kind,
It was plain on their faces,
Alloyed with emotions,
Sad and happy at the same time,
For he had rested.

'Happy are the DEAD, for they rest in PEACE '.
