Futile Efforts (Aka-Gone Green) Poem by Barry Van Allen

Futile Efforts (Aka-Gone Green)

I am putting forth the effort,
although I seldom make a difference,
as if there's going to be a pay-off,
as if there's something that is owed me,
... just for hanging in there.

I keep putting forth the effort,
because there may be something out there,
that needs an explaination,
and I keep putting forth the effort,
... without appreciation,
because the end-game may be everything,
... and then some.

I keep putting forth the effort,
against the overwhelming odds,
and when I'm ready to give up the ghost,
perhaps a palpable acknowledgement,
from someone who took notice.

As I keep putting forth the effort,
the picture becomes clearer,
the only thing that most folks see,
is the reflections in their mirrors.

Yet, I still put forth the effort,
there are a few of us that do...
require more than simple satisfaction,
expect more than just a null reaction,
that think that this life is the main attraction,
and that want to trade the brown,
... for green and blue.
