Gabe The Warrior Poem by Randy McClave

Gabe The Warrior

He showed me the stitches on his forehead
He then told me how profusely he had bled,
And when the nurse was giving him his stitches
All that he thought about was the itches.
Then he knew that he finally received his own battle scar
Rumors about him soon will spread near and far,
All the girls will now will want to give him a wink
And all the bad guys that want to mess with him, will just think.
Now he has a battle scar like the other men
And even one probably like one of his own kin,
Now he is part of a very exclusive guild
Where other battle scarred members have stories to yield.
Then when on his forehead they placed a bandaid
He said that is not how a true man is made,
He said girls are made from skirts, dresses and shoes
While men are made from bumps and cuts and the occasional bruise.
Now when he walks into a room people will both point and stare
At the scar and at the stitches on his forehead beneath his hair,
They will know that a tough person that he must really be
When he runs and talks about his scar with jokes and glee.
He'll showed off his scar as a Olympic star would show off his medallion
He will then have the persona like a fierce, wild stallion,
Then of course he will be saddened a-bit, soon one day
When he is told by family and friends that his scar will not stay.
But, of course there are more roads and adventures for him to meet
Both in the school or playing in the park or on the street,
And this warrior I must say is very brave, reckless and bold
This warrior Gabe, is just 5 years old.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The parents (church members) posted the other day how their 5 year year old son had cut his head (5stitches) after a fall in school, so I wrote this poem, so he wouldn't feel embarrassed with his stitches.
