Gardening Fervour Poem by Sheila Bello

Gardening Fervour

The roots of her gardening fervour are
set in her genes. They sprout and grow
branches that spread in her psyche.

This fervour does not thrive on myths and lore,
though their tendrils dangle in her face
and have gripped her fascination before.

The allure of gardens
is nurtured by kinship instincts.
Like plants, she is an offspring of the earth - -
elements and tendencies of earth are in her.

A curiosity to watch and interact
with birds, animals, and other inhabitants
of gardens, fertilizers her fervor.

She is mindful too, how
from the gardened earth
food and flowers grow
to feed hungry bodies and spirits.
