Generation Gap Poem by Jayatissa K. Liyanage

Generation Gap

Comprehended from internet, on nutrition
Comes down, she, from the cyber space
Settling down to enjoy routine home supper
Sees what served and becomes inquisitive

Mother, tell me where these veggies came from
These fruits look nice, juicy and pretty
Those lime fruits, sour aren't they?
Oh, these mangoes taste so wonderful

Tell me Mother where did you buy them
Where do they grow and how costly they were
Sure daughter, they are nice juicy and tasty
Yet, I spent not a cent for them, trust me

They are the fruits of your father's sweat
I only picked them up from our own yard

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Based on real life case. Present day youth often become addicted to the mobile phone and the computer. So much so, they grow up not knowing what was happening within their own surrounding.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

You have brought out the generation gap beautifully well from an everyday experience! Children and youth of the present time have no awareness of Nature and the trees and plants that grow in our surroundings! They are in the cyber space, familiar with a virtual world only! I invite you to read my poem with the same title Generation Gap, as and when you find time!
