Generation X Poem by Billy Smith

Generation X

X is for excess, i was there at the start.
exhurberent ecstatic extremes as art
enough's not enough unless it's too much
our mantra of sex, drugs and rock 'n such

always pursuing strange obsesively
keys bought and dealt so i could party free
(a pack of zig zags orange in each bag sold
brilliant marketing often i was told)

from driving too fast when not even late
to drinking liquer from the bottle straight
four twenty went from one day each year
to an everyday celebration of cheer

LSD squirted straight from a vial
tripping balls all night with a goofy smile
XTC was legal straight out of school
candy flipping started by someone cool

a ten strip of blotter, some tulips too
not of my culture? well you have no clue
dancing naked by moonlight, that bet won
not just what's illegal, but anything fun

all you kids out there following my path
test minimums first, learn survival math
of every excess i've been there done that
i survived it all until i went splat
