George The Greek Poem by Francis Duggan

George The Greek

Me do not speak the English well i'm quoting 'George the Greek'
And few still seem to understand when me to them do speak
Been in this Country twenty years and me English not so good
And me would be a happy man if me were understood.

But i find no problem with George with what he has to say
And i can understand him well his English seems okay
Though he becomes confused at times use me instead of i
For himself to be understood his very best he try.

And all his best mates are from greece that i can understand
As migrants stick with their own race when they leave their homeland
And when he's with his grecian mates in grecian tongue they speak
They meet down at the local pub a couple of times a week

Though people of different cultures seem to live in harmony
This multiculturalism not all what it's made out to be
They seem to share with their own kind when they live far from home
And stick to their own culture the only one they've known.

Me cannot speak the English well so George from Athens say
Though i can understand him well his English seems okay
And that all his best mates are from Greece i too can understand
As people stick with their own kind when they leave their homeland.
