Girl Friends Poem by Mou Mukherjee Das

Girl Friends

Girl friends-
I have many
Don't ask me the numbers
They remind me of my limitations

To name a few-
Riya, Piu, Laxmi, Adrija
- And many more.
We bond over small and trivial things
We bond over large and more important things
Bonding over an issue? -nah
We bond over nothing and
Sometimes everything.

Tears and laughter go hand in hand
We cry when we loose our dear ones,
We cry when our loved ones get the first prize
We laugh when we see
That simple innocence still glittering in the eyes.
We laugh at the slightest joke
At the stupidity of a bloke.
We are at our naughtiest best
Full of vigor and zest
Call it raw courage
Call it misdemeanor
Who wants to take along life's garbage?

But of all the friends
I fondly remember some
Some I casual mention
Some are those special ones, twinkling star
They may be near or
They may have gone too far.
And some can be easily kicked out-
Oh not-so- worthy ones-the most bizarre.

Girl friends-
I have many
Don't ask me the numbers
Numbers make me cringe.

I meet my girlfriends all along the way
My girlfriends are precious stones
They unwind me
My usual self
The not-so-usual self and the unusual self
The unexplored fears
The uncharted territories
The ‘ME' unknown to me.
Gathering pebbles as I walk the shore
In the journey of life.
