Give Me Peace Poem by Chol Abraham Clei

Give Me Peace

Just a twinkle of light, a little more breeze and a deep breathe.
Yes! I long for hope,
ill-nurtured and abandoned young.
In the fields of opulence where greed dominates
In the cone of confusion I call motherland
I roll a dry tongue around cracked lips
For the taste of sweat is great, when I don't have to wage a bulldog war.
So give me peace

In the abyss of ignorance, lack of conscience and truth
We got rid of our brothers, oh! world how indifferent you have been
With intricate patterns of compassion and complaisance you gaze
A little mumbles and we don't have peace
So give me peace

The illusion of superiority invites hatred
Whence comes worries and war
So am tasked with a sword
To guard a syndicate with evil intentions
In the cone of confusion I call motherland
I am not free, just yet
So give me peace

My hopes lie stretched
Under a premeditated acts of repression and recession
What a bounty of choice
To reconcile with our arrogant self and unruly brothers
Or face the perils of universal justice
It's never too late, to search for a lasting peace
We need peace
So give us peace

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
In July 2016, South Sudan goes to war for the second time after independence in 2011.The war had taken a tribal line leaving the country divided up between the Two major ethnic groups, the Dinka and the Nuer. By the virtue of being a Dinka, I was on the government side, flying helicopters for the army but I didn't like how the war was shaping our country. Every time i go to work, i ask myself, Are we doing the right thing? . So on 10/10/2016, I put down this few words to express my feeling.
