Give Me The Truth Poem by Scott Stevenson

Give Me The Truth

Rating: 2.0

give me some fire to play with
don't let me burn you
I need to burn sometimes, you see...
but don't let me get you involved
don't say you're anxious
if you're really so dissolved

give me a river to walk across
don't let me get your new clothes all wet
you're already so established,
and I need to test my heart
don't say today is perfect
if you've ripped yourself apart

give me a bell to ring
don't let me ring too loud
I just need some time to celebrate,
but you have to get some sleep
don't say you'll make a promise
that you know you'll never keep

give me some money to waste
don't let me be so frivolous with love
don't unlock me if you're scared to
but let me create myself
don't expect to hear my voice
if your heart's up on a shelf

give me my destiny to attach to yours
don't let this time go unused
I always feel badly worked and bruised,
just a ghost against your youth
don't ever put on a mask at me
(pure sugar aches the tooth)
don't say we have forever
if you can't give me the truth
