The Zoo Poem by Scott Stevenson

The Zoo

Rating: 2.2

like an angel lost at sea
like a swan that swallows a diamond ring
like the gracious exit of dreams from the mind
a cold, quiet mind and a whisper to heaven
honey, we're all going crazy

crazy like red eyes of animal prisons
like the thunder of the heart of the earth
gold flakes off stars that lose inhibitions
too soon for flight, to dropp like flies
too late to feel rewarded
honey, we don't make much sense out of love

love like a lawn overgrown,
like skies bursting with planes and innocent birds
love like a mess of brightness in the distance
like treatment to rescue old shoes
old ropes that bind old souls together
like the zoo of life beginning, growing, moving up
like a danger with careful fingers
like it or push it in the sand, like it
or die lonely,
to unlatch whatever's left of you
whatever you've kept of your voice
honey, we're all accustomed to
the black thorn of reality
the pinch, and the rush to fortify ourselves
invigoration
like sunlight kisses through jungle trees
the color of freedom's relief, a wild thing
love me like that, honey, how we were made
like that glorious music we hear today
