Giving Life Up Poem by Timothy Long

Giving Life Up

My genetics gave up on me,
It won't let me survive long term,
My left eye is going blind,
They won't allow me to drive,
My teeth are falling apart,
My gums are receding as well,
I might have to give life up,
Being homeless makes life a stretch,
Being broke made me cry,
Having no support system makes me want to die,
Is life worth giving it up?
Many want to live free,
Some want to exist on more time,
This life is limited in many ways,
It's even sadder to know I'm not the only one,
Life has become more competitive,
Goods too expensive,
Things just changed too fast,
Dating became an invisible tragedy,
Life is giving up on me,
I want too on it,
Others with life better than mine did so,
Am I strong or stupid for hanging on so long?
I know it will get worse in every way,
Self-deletion is a thought to stay,
The record of it is going up,
One statistic I don't want to be part of,
But what future success can I have?
A boring day of a boring life,
Maybe that's all life is,
I can't give up yet,
I can still do more,
I will bring life up the hopeful shore!
