Giving Up Poem by Amar Agarwala

Giving Up

There have been times when in my life
Many more than I can count,
When failures have mowed me down
All which I could not surmount.

It tore my soul to tatters small
And framed it upon a wall,
Quite like that of a crucifix
That it could be seen by all.

I had no choice but bear with it
Ravaged by my hallowed fate,
All I could do was harder pray
To erase my dismal state.

Its then I heard a voice within
Which urged me to stand again,
Goading me that I give not up
However deep be the pain.

No greater struggle I did face
To gather up all my wits,
For it lay scattered in fragments
Some in pieces, some in bits.

So long it took a longer while
That I lost count of the days,
Yet knew that life had vagaries
And such were the worldly ways.

Blessing it is to fight it out
Matters not we lose or win,
To shy away from battles hard
There can be no greater sin.

When pushed by life upon your knees
Accept it not as defeat,
Do shrug it off and stand up tall
There can be no greater feat.

Matters not the wounds you get
For each is some sacrament,
Solemn gifts from Almighty
For blissful enlightenment.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
ABOUT LIFE

There are times when life pushes us down to our knees, we feel down, defeated and worn-out, but another look at it and it is easy to tell that it is the best position to pray. God sends us many tests, but they are gifts from the heaven that we get our final due - and it can be nothing short of enlightenment!
