Glass Of Wine Poem by Midifo Yearns

Glass Of Wine

Cheeky gust of wind lifts her skirt
and leaves an autumn leaf upon her shoe.
She does not notice, she’s all alone;
sitting at the edge, sipping glass of wine.
Long time has passed since dine she did
with others, family, friends, lover, drone.
That he would glance, could that be true,
or did the wind just wave his shirt?

Her face is creased by years of love
marked too by fears; tears of sorrow
and the wonder of it all, in twinkling eye
that looks beyond to welcome joy,
play games with faces like childhood toy
and then allow memory to fade; wave goodbye
begin again some strength to borrow
and watch an autumn leaf twirl in wind above.

Another sip and sadness brings a tear;
what happened to the years of passing time?
Those little feet she taught to walk,
and jump and dance; the little tunes she sang;
sense of holiness she felt when church bells rang,
and all the gathered clan would sit and talk.
Those were the years when life was at its prime
and courage was more strong than fear.

Now there’s only this; this little glass of wine;
simple outing to nearby pavement store,
where she can sit and watch the world go past
and smile at those who bear their heart
in such a way that dreams can start
to filter in, refresh her mind, take root and last,
and open wide each closed and shuttered door
and then go home, alone again, on simple fare to dine.
