Gnarled Syllogism Poem by Paul Hartal

Gnarled Syllogism

And what are you talking about?

O, that when one removes goodness,
a moral hole of nothingness crops up,
which is soon appropriated
by the devil. So, sometimes logic
can clash with ethics.

But is not logic always harmonious
with moral ends?

No, it is not. Take, for example,
this syllogism:

Humans should be free.
Criminals are humans.
Criminals should be free.
