God Gave Me Intellect, The True Guide To Me. Poem by Mohammad Younus

God gave me intellect, the true guide to me,
But nafs, my foe, wouldn't accept the guidance he gave.
The nafs has a big sack that it carries with it all along.
When I stuffed in it all it desired, it didn't fill it.
And shouted to me:
Hey! have you got something more? Give it to me!

We are obliged to accept what our intellect bids us,
To listen and see.
This pen of intellect under the divine command says:
Read I write it for you! These are the pearls from God.
It is the Lord who created this wisdom light in me.
Whoever lives under this light will not fall into darkness.
And will of course find all existence is One.

Don't wander like a vagabond, live under my guidance,
I am your spiritual master, a trusted Guide.
Keep your eyes ever on the path of Friends of God,
Do not set your steps on the footprints of those persons,
Who are unworthy ones -- the charlatans.
Get from me the pearls of wisdom and knowledge,
These are no ordinary goods sold in the marketplaces.
Submit your self to me and serve the Lord, never get lost.
You'll never reach the goal if you take Satan of nafs,
As your leader and guide on the path to lord.


MyKoul has a bouquet of roses in his hand,
That he has got from the Rosegarden of his lord.
He keeps the name of the Beloved ever on his tongue,
As he relentlessly hears it reverberating all around.
He is, by the grace of his Lord on the path going to Him,
Divine intelligence is his leader and the True Guide.
