(words by EmmaPassions Emesakoru, inspired by Promise Ojiegbe)
How dare you compare yourself with the blazing sun and undermine your beauty?
Don't you know the sweltering sun melts, sizzles and sweats whenever it sees you?
Can't you see a galaxy of stars only exist and twinkle because of your sparkling eyes?
I couldn't have pictured a more breathtaking paradise than your arms where mine lies.
And if you didn't have as much as lungful of breath, there would be no oxygen.
Even if you build impenetrable walls around your heart shaped after Gilbratar's rock,
For Helen Troy's walls crumbled, and like weathering I'll break yours into tiny blocks.
And on every disintegrated stone, I'll engrave my confession with a chisel and mallet.
I'll paint each indelible impression unforgettably red with my throbbing bloodied heart.
Let Zimbabwe and Zambia pride themselves with their stunningly scenic Victoria waterfalls,
Yet your mountain of black braids that falls to your waist and beautiful bones transcends all.
Ignore me all you want, live in denial for all I care, and turn a deaf ear to all my praise,
Still, in a world with many bright colours, I can't gainsay you're simply God's glowing grace!
