Going On Poem by heather sweeting

Going On

Hope sped on ahead and cleared the far horizon,
leaving no signs, no footprints in the way.
How do I embrace the concept of tomorrow
When I find no meaning in today?
Ribs of steel constrict my raw emotions,
An iron hammer beats inside my breast.
I seek in vain the loving hand to guide me,
Now he is gone, the one who knew me best.

The sun will rise but I may live in shadow,
Flowers bloom, yet I will leave them there.
Their scented presence is a silent mourning,
Fragrant memories are the buds they bear.
Time stands still with birds in silence waiting,
to catch the cue to sing their softest lay.
Sing now, and then sing sweet forever,
in memory of one, so loved, now gone away.
