Gone - Poem by Bethan Leigh Rowe

And now that all the hope is gone
Can’t find the will to still believe
Can’t find the strength to carry on
I’m haunted by the need to leave

And life is nothing as it seems
And love can’t conquer all
And all I have is endless dreams
Of watching myself fall

And in this darkened heart of mine
I see you in despair
But oh my dear you sacrificed
My love, my want, my care

A soul now full of hatred
My heart devoid of life
Betrayed by those I trusted
Engorged my hate and strife

And yes I hate you darling
And yes I wish you dead
My heart can never love again
It withers now instead

When all you have is loyalty
When all you have is sated
When those around betray you
The air you breathe is wasted

So here I am alone in pain
So here I am stuck in reverse
The tears are streaming down my face
Tears of wondering could it be worse?

And does she hold you how I did?
And can she banish cold grey skies?
And does she kiss you like I did?
And is she blind to endless lies?

I’ll hand you to this friend of mine
There’s nothing left to say or do
You and she can sail away
I’m here to end my time with you

And if in life we ever meet
And if my pain has gone
There won’t be words to sing or say
You’ll know that you’ve done wrong
