Good Luck To You I Say Poem by Francis Duggan

Good Luck To You I Say

The heavy rains have come at last and brought an end to the drought
But you may not pass through Bairnsdale as the Mitchell river is flooding out
Across the Princes Highway the cars not getting through
But you have got some choices though your choices are few

You can book into a motel in Stratford and pray that tomorrow is dry
Though in that I do not like your chances grey low rain clouds in the sky
Or you can try the by roads that to Bairnsdale Town lead
Though they too may be flooded and to get through luck you'd need.

The paddocks and the roadways flooded and the Mitchell's rising fast
But in a few hours if it stops raining the traffic bound for Bairnsdale may get past
Another choice that you've got you can wait till the flood goes down
And later on in the evening you may make it through to Bairnsdale Town.

Beyond the Town of Bairnsdale the Princes highway of flooding clear
Though all of Gippsland threatened by flooding on the news headlines we hear
But you feel determined for to make it through though water is on the highway
And fortune do favour the brave so good luck to you I say.
