I’m consumed by a raging sadness
that like a fire burns within,
searing scars left behind from memories
of a love over-shadowed by sin.
And I walk unaware of my footsteps,
as I turn my face from the past,
and I dry the tears shed in secret
to brave a goodbye at last.
To brave a goodbye to the remnants
of dreams that have faded away,
to the guilt and the blame we both carried
for the words that we failed to say.
So before our smiles turn to anger
and the anger is swallowed in hate,
I kiss you goodbye in the morning,
for the night time will be too late.
And I walk unaware of my footsteps,
as I turn my face from the past,
and I dry the tears shed in secret
to brave this goodbye at last.
