Goodbye Distraction Poem by Mita Diran

Goodbye Distraction

Tilt your head up way up high
See how there's no birds in the sky
The perfect day to bid you goodbye
See how this old canvas paints a vain picture to look at
So I look at it, make my world glare at it
Maybe I've spent too long, looking at it
'Cause now I don't feel a thing

Where did all those raging belly flips go?
There was a carnival of butterflies with jiggles
Clawing my sides like a rough tickle of fingers
Zapping that electrical surge
All the way through
Like yeah, just moments before

Why waste time asking why?
I was never enveloped by your affection
You were never my protection
Probably a tiny resurrection
Definitely a worthy intervention
Beyond a doubt, a damn good distraction
And in the end, that's just all there is

It's the wrong season to be swept off my feet
This ain't spring
I still have ice on my skin
I'm not the kind of person that's easy to thaw
But you almost did
Well, that I'll admit
