Gospel Songbird Poem by Jimmy L. Lyons

Gospel Songbird

Once a beautiful woman sang in our church choir;
just listening to her voice filled people with desire.
She still sings in church, and her voice is just the same;
this gospel songbird's singing is still her claim to fame.

This beautiful gospel songbird always wears a smile;
despite her many hardships, she carries herself with style.
The way she smiles at others shows that God is in her life;
she knows that love and sweetness are the way to deal with strife.

I saw her just a month ago, singing with some friends;
the Clark Sisters hymns they sang were like a gift God sends.
My gospel songbird's singing voice brought tears to my eyes;
and I decided then and there to give her a surprise.

She doesn't know I'm writing this; it's my secret thank-you gift.
I want to show my gratitude and give her heart a lift.
I'm sending out this prayer to her and wishing her the best;
this beautiful gospel songbird needs to know that she is blessed.
