Gotta Be Coy Poem by Randy McClave

Gotta Be Coy

When I was a very young boy
My Grandma once said to me,
"Sometimes" she said, "you just gotta be coy"
And when you are, don't let people see.

Don't let people see you when you are down
Never be their entertainment,
Wear a smile and toss away that silly frown
Then let them see your footprint.

Never, ever give people the upper hand
Especially in your worries and strife,
Even in sadness with a smile make your stand
If not, those people will ruin your life.

My grandma has since left this world
But, behind she has left me her foresight
I can now defend from all which is hurled
With a coyness and not tears I will fight.

When one is hurt never ask others why
I say that from my teachings which are true,
There is a time for one to cry
But, not when people are talking about you.
