Granddaughter Poem by Charles Hancock

Granddaughter

I'm not ready for this
I don't understand
And often reminisce
Nature's slight of hand

Where does time go
Each new day brings
A new sunny glow
No more water wings

Used to sit on my knee
Now you're grown and tall
Sipping on your sweet tea
Still miss when you were small

Boots, T-shirt, and ripped jeans
Iphone, Snapchat, and IG
Can't believe you're in your teens
It just can't be

When you start to date
Guys with cute patooties
I'll give it to you straight
Kisses will give you cooties

Just hold on a bit longer
Watch out for his line
And his flirtatious saunter
Think, my body, my shrine
