Grave Ills Poem by Emeka Williams Etumnu

Grave Ills

Rating: 5.0

We wake to see racism
Still grappling to believe
What just happened
In Minneapolis
Oh, black Floyd and the police!

Boom!
In our backyard another
Grave ill happened
In the sanctuary
Place mortals communion
With spirit up the sky
Abomination was done

Flower to be tender
Was bruised, violated
And extinguished with extinguisher
Victims blood spilled
Like those in Spartacus
Holy place of worship
Turned deadly as the Adder's venom

Your uncontrolled urge
Has caused poets to write a dirge
For victims whose breath were snatched
Who couldn't make it
In the struggle of the four letter word
"RAPE"
Yet, the survivors live on with scars
Mr jailer! Mr jailer! I'm calling you
We need justice now!

For George Floyd
For Uwa
For Tina
For Jennifer
For the 6 years old whose cry I still hear in my sleep
For all victims of social ills
We need justice now!
