Grave Soldiers - Poem by Aleak Nellem
The stone-faced unmarching soldiers stand at attention
in long unwavering rows.
Grave expressions permanently etched into every single one of their faces.
Through rain, wind, and snow they stay.
Some become worn, but never break rank.
Their presence reminds us of those they protect
Which is the very reason they are there.
They refuse to let us forget those they watch over;
those sleeping below.
As more soldiers enlist in this never-ending battle.
we are reminded,
that one day we too will have a soldier to watch over us.
that one day, we will be the one sleeping below.
