Gravity Poem by Nick Downer

Gravity

Creeping slowly up and up
into an oblivion so far away,
so painfully measured
that time ceases to elapse.
On top of the world looking down
and everything is so diminutive,
so exceptionally unexceptional,
insignificant.
I could go anywhere
from this point, this moment
but gravity holds me down,
waiting for the fall,
the inevitable plunge
cause what goes up, must come down,
crashing down,
through all those insignificant things,
words, pain, thoughts,
no angel wings to life me up,
too fast to fly,
my wings are ripped
like a butterfly in a jar,
thrashing to escape but trapped by four walls.
You, the controller of gravity,
you build me up then throw me down,
eternal miles between
my endless infinity.
