Gray Prayers Poem by Asad Saeed

Gray Prayers

I do not know if you call it vile,
I only prayed for bliss.
A cavalcade of happy moments,
To seep through the abyss.
You said you lack an analogy,
That you have all, but no compare.
Then why would I ask anyone else,
To deracinate me from despair?
You said you’re God, that I should pray to you;
And what else can I but do?
You have your minions everywhere,
But who else can I turn to?
If I am right then speak to me,
Or tell me where I’m wrong.
I feel compelled to cleanse my soul,
Of this query far prolonged.
Why do I worry of a grave mistake?
That could just be naïve.
Forgive my sight for its blind faith,
But I ask for what I crave.
