Great Horned Cattle Of Africa Poem by Terry Dawson

Great Horned Cattle Of Africa

Rating: 5.0

The urgent lowing of a cow
Calling out to her calf apart
Disturbs the still of dawn, and now
Hark... herd-boys making early start

In cattle kraal with orange dust
And pronged as buy acacia thorns,
The young herd-boys exhibit trust
In Zebu cattle full of horns.

These great cattle - the tribal wealth
Providers of both milk and blood
That guaranty life and good health -
Await the day and chew the cud.
