Grip Poem by Akara K.

Grip

Rating: 2.6

I tried so hard to hold you back, but to no avail
You slipped from my grasp so easily
Sometimes I can't help but blame myself
Maybe if I was only able to hold on a little tighter
We wouldn't be here right now
You wouldn't be looking up at me with tear-filled eyes
Tears run down your face, but they aren't your own
My heart is dying along with you
The snow is tainted with blood
I think, maybe if I hold onto your hand now
I can make up for letting you go the first time
Maybe I can bind you to me, keep you from drifting away
Maybe you can somehow forgive me
But your heavy heartbeat slowly fades
I can no longer feel your warm breath on my face
My grip on your cold corpse won't help you
Maybe I just didn't hold on tight enough
Maybe I couldn't hold on
