Grounded Poem by Luis Jimenez

Grounded

You could be on top of the world-

but still,

you would come down for me.

The travertine-

placed beneath your feet,

has never been enough.

Reminiscing on a distant self,

would all go up in smoke.

Everlasting clouds,

were made to hold you high-

yet something that you needed,

was below.

A boundless gift,

bestowed by Faith.

you tied it-

to a tree.

That very force-

still lifts you up,

and will forevermore.

When all is done,

the heads have turned-

you'll still come down for me.
