Habeas Corpus Poem by Zahraa Song

Habeas Corpus

Rating: 5.0

Stand here, move towards the light
The evening has swathed and into night
I will be where I was when last you found
I will be here in that tedious shroud

You see me through that glass my dear
It looks exact, but come step a little near
It has my name; and yet doesn’t feel the same
Oh! I can tell now you feel it too
You’re looking into my eyes and I feel you rue

Now you see that this is all
I don’t want to bear that pall
And so I will gently rock and hum as I wait
My eyes will light up when I hear your gait

All my heart’s emotions I will pen
For then I shall be within your den

While I wait for you to arrive
This pain I shall have to hide

No one must know; how badly I want to go

Stand here, move towards the light
The evening has swathed and into the night
I will be here where you last found
I am once more in that tedious shroud
