Hammers For All Poem by Randy McClave

Hammers For All

I have a student named Maxwell in my class
He thinks that he is some type of badass,
That student keeps hitting other kids over the head with a hammer
Now many of the other students, now just stammer.
I can't get anything accomplished or ever done
What is next I think, will it be a gun,
And of course all the other students hate it
But, sadly they or I can't ever escape from it.
Some people have asked me what have I tried doing
Maybe his parents we all should be suing,
And if I try taking the hammer away from that child
The parents and the PTA will undoubtedly go wild.
I explain to the other students that it's not the hammer's fault
Because you can't verbally tell a hammer to halt,
It wasn't the rocks fault when Cain killed his brother Abel
And that belief has become Americas fall back label.
Sometimes I don't know what to say or what to do
Honestly I have no direction or one single clue,
Students have the right to have and own hammers
Just as much rights as students have the rights to be computer programmers.
What I'd like to do is to buy hammers for every single student
Including the slow and the chronic I believe it must be prudent,
Then no students will ever have problems with hammers again
More hammers will surely fix everything, Amen.
