Handled Candle Poem by Richard G Berg

Handled Candle

Candle globe
Remapping the heart
Show us how to be
Representing the natural world
Reformed, in wild tranquility

No need to pick its wick
No need to spark light warmth
For its unmelted charms to stick

Shrunken world of fleeting creatures
Where dragonflies
With candy-twirling tails
Slope their slick wishes through a waxy sky

Hopeful butterflies amuse the spaces
Unspoiled by death's un-plotted traces

Candle universe joys in peace
A carousel of mother nature's care
To celebrate the pulsing flux, defying yellow air

Love of summer's darting flight
Love of child-like colours, good enough to eat
Love of who we are through what they are
Where both these worlds chance to meet

Love of psyche's brittle flash
Love of dragonfly's dangerous dash
Love of light in two-toned form
Love of altering the outdoor world, as if this were the norm

Love of candle's dwindling dew
When wonderment of wildlife has waned
Loving how remembrance
Is all that waxes true
