Happiness Is A Privilege Poem by Rae Wycuff

Happiness Is A Privilege

Rating: 5.0

Happiness is a privilege
Most certainly not a right
For if it were,
More individuals would be joyful and bright

But life beats us down
Forcing us to behave
And, almost always, in the pain,
We just so happen to cave

You must act how you are instructed
Speak in a specific way
The standards set by society
Will surely lead you astray

Some people are put down
For wanting to believe
I sometimes think people are dead for years
And sooner we should grieve

We kill our creativity
We burn out our individuality
We crush our originality
We cannot progress spiritually

I believe in a love
That doesn't exist
Or rather, I did, but soon saw the truth
For I experienced my first heartbreak
Later in my youth

Loving someone of the same will kill you
Make you keep everything inside
I'm sorry
But you will not find me in view
For in my mind I reside
