Happy Daze Poem by Kevin Patrick

Happy Daze

Rating: 5.0

I've been falling since birth
on a burning treadmill
Running empty for nothing
On a road that stands still
And I'm going know where
And I'm heading their fast
Feels like the futures
On the wrong side of the past

Wishing for an angel
Who wasn't on a discount
Watching my heart get bankrupt
From another trust account
My hope wears no feathers
Its just a ball and chain
I smile on the surface
Just to hide I'm not insane

Sleeps the only peace
From this hell when I'm awake
Surviving through this life
Will drive you to the stake
The world might be a stage
But everyone's a tool
If they think they are the lead
Then their born to play the fool

One day this book will end
And then the pages shut
It'll be placed among the shelf
As the words will turn to dust
But for now ill carry on
Like a rat inside this maze
Looking for an exit
To escape this happy daze

2) cont'd: 'And I'm going know where' - I love the ambiguity of this line. Some might argue 'know where' is a spelling error i.e. meant to be 'nowhere'. I believe that both Cat Stevens and Kerouac would think otherwise. Maybe I'm in that 'happy daze'. Outstanding work, My Friend!

I totally love everything and every thing about this poem, Kevin. The metaphors and imagery are spot on. Your choice of 'aloneness' as the topic of this poem is excellent. So many people feel exactly like this...and think that they're alone.
