Happy New Year To Rose Mary Poem by Jacson Gelato

Happy New Year To Rose Mary

Rating: 5.0

Sitting by the fireplace
in that old rocking armchair
with cushion pillow
that smells like a gunny bag
old trucker Jones picks up his hat
from across the mantle
and out to his cellar he walks
holding on to his white cane stick
and pulls out a wine bottle of Rosé,
and though his eyes can't see
walking around the house
knowing what is where
he finds two wine glasses
places them on the table
and pours the Rosé into it
cheers O' my Rose Mary
the New Year is here
and I am still waiting
but I know you will not come
so he picks up his old hat
empties one glass of wine
with a large sip and a big burp
out he goes starts his old car
and on the dusty road he drives
recklessly with an old pain
in his heart of many years.
Out there on the grave
he kneels down and prays
a few tears fall on the tombstone
which read O' Rose Mary
forever I will miss.....
when he comes and gulps down
his second glass of wine
Happy New Year, my Rose Mary
Cheers he says and slumps
in his old armchair
never to wake up again.
