Have I...My Mother's Eyes Poem by JoAnn McGrath

Have I...My Mother's Eyes

Have I... My Mother's Eyes

I peer into my Mother's eyes
84 years of fading memories

Regrets.................endured
Rejoices...............revisited
Suffering...............comprehended
Anger....................kept covered

Wrinkles that show the hard road
62 years of marriage at best
and the worst hidden
But still together
'To death do us part'
All that is left....to sit and wait

Now I stand before this mirror
That tells no lies
Little more over half her age

A glimpse of what is to come perhaps

Not because I walked in her shoes
But still scary how similar the path

Except for the different ending

I look in this mirror

Have I... My Mother's eyes
