Have Patience Poem by RIC BASTASA

Have Patience

there is so much noise
on the surface of things
like a very shallow river

its waters always arguing
with all the rocks
and even with the peebles

it lashes its tongue
on every bank that
it passess
without
listening

farther away is the wisdom
of silence
the patience of the depths
and its dangers

to swallow those who
are reckless
to compel the noise
to submit
to its final poise

forever, the quiet
rest, resignation, death.
