Have You Ever Felt Poem by Francis Duggan

Have You Ever Felt

Have you ever felt so maudlin that you went to a quiet place
So that others would not see you with tears streaming down your face
And you ask yourself am I going mad or what is wrong with me
From my invisible cocoon of sadness through the darkness I can't see?

Have you ever felt so happy that you laughed loud and long
And your day was almost perfect nothing for you was going wrong
Everybody seemed so happy everything was going your way
You had spread your ray of gladness and made other people's day?

Have you ever felt so tired as you shovelled mud out of a drain
And your hands felt tired and blistered and your back feeling the strain
Of the hard work you were doing and to yourself you did say
I will give notice on friday if I don't get a raise in pay?

Have you ever felt so worried that you cannot get to sleep
Out of work with a huge mortgage you have fallen in a heap
And your wife with the children has left you she was tired of living from hand to mouth
One might say you are doing it hard but that is what life's about?
