He Did Not Look Too Happy Poem by Francis Duggan

He Did Not Look Too Happy

Rating: 5.0

He did not look too happy the bloke sitting next to me
I nodded to him in acknowledgement but me he did not wish to see
'Twould seem he did not feel well or was having a bad day
Whatever was his problem he had nothing to say
He sat there in a surly looking mood as the train chugged along
It would have been a huge surprise had he burst into song
He did not seem the type to tell or to laugh at a good joke
A sturdily built one perhaps in his early thirties he was not a friendly bloke
Who knows he has had enough of talk already in his life
Before he left home today a shouting match with his wife
As he stood to leave the train at a station he had nothing to say
He just departed quietly and went upon his way
A chance meeting this morning now a fading memory
I will not remember him for long and he will not remember me
