He Showed Me The Way Poem by Eric Zinbabora Batung

He Showed Me The Way

Every day, when I wake up, I pray not to stray.
Yet I stray.
I cast a gaze into myself and see the stains of yesterday.
I try to clean the stain yet it stays.
So I go my way.

All noon I gaze to the sun to find help so I can stay away from stain.
Yet I stray.
I try to clean the stain yet it stays.
So I go my way.

At night I gaze at the stars to find help but to no avail.
So I bow my head in shame with nothing more to say.
Then suddenly I hear the voice of my crucified Saviour;
Who my sins paid, at a price I could not myself pay.

Tears fill my eyes when I hear him say;
Why have you kept me on this ragged cross with your sinful ways?
Look not to the sun or to the stars to find the way.
Look up to me your saviour whom your sins paid.
Search within yourself and you will find me there in your heart.
Bend the knee of your heart and keep your feet from evil ways.
Then you will truly find the way.
