He Surely Lived His Poetry Poem by Francis Duggan

He Surely Lived His Poetry

He surely lived his poetry that would be fair to say
And he left Wales as a young man for places far away
He travelled in North America and tramped from town to town
And he started writing poetry on his highway to renown.

One of his legs was amputated when he jumped off of a moving train
But he got on with living he was not one to complain
About life or being hard done by he accepted circumstance
With a wooden leg poor Davies he was never more to dance.

The great poet William Henry Davies is in the Literary Hall of Fame
And his poems that have outlived him are an honour to his name
His works are full of happiness he was not a man of tears
And his poems are still recited though he has been dead for years.

With his words he weaved his magic he was one worthy of note
And he lives on in literature as a great and a major poet
In his passion for living in words he did rejoice
And his poems are full of beauty they were born with their own voice.
