He Was Here Poem by Sidi Mahtrow

He Was Here

He was just here.
It seems like an eternity ago
When he brought a presence
To awaken and quicken the pulse.

An old white haired man
Easily lost in the crowd
Unless you happened to hear
The quiet words, softly spoken.

Or if you saw the gleam
In his always searching eyes
Looking into the very soul of man
As if he had the keys to the universe.

The quick smile
Not for everyone as he
Sought out those to favor
And those in need of his embrace.

Now he's gone
Climbed those stairs
Springing of step as if to say,
My children, I've done my job.
