Heady Days Poem by Paul Reed

Heady Days

And now there is just you and me
After all the uprushing, glorious days
Now there is a sudden quietness
A stillness, an unfamiliar phase;

We have been dragged by the collar
Hurtled through time's cruel machine
Now there is a kind of vacuum
And on each other we have to lean;

What was it that drove us on
That strained each part to the limit
Where did we get the strength
That took us to the summit?

But as we look down upon the past
And everything that we have done
There is just you and me again
And those heady days have gone.
